Da Vinci Robotics Surgery System

Using the most advanced technology available today, the da Vinci Surgical System enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex operations through a few tiny incisions with increased vision, precision, dexterity and control. The da Vinci Surgical System consists of several key components, including: an ergonomically designed console where the surgeon sits while operating, a patient-side cart where the patient lays during surgery, four interactive robotic arms, a high-definition 3D vision system, and proprietary EndoWrist® instruments.

Da Vinci is powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology that allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be scaled, filtered and translated into precise movements of the EndoWrist instruments working inside the patient’s body. The da Vinci System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. As a result, da Vinci enables the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.

Novalis radiosurgery accurately shapes the radiation beam to the area to be treated and uses imaging guidance and other methods to target the tissue or tumor to be treated while avoiding surrounding healthy tissues. Novalis technology also allows for changes in the intensity of the radiation beam (intensity-modulated radiotherapy) when needed. When appropriate, Novalis radiosurgery may result in a small number of treatment visits for patients.

Other radiosurgery systems use circular beams of radiation to treat tumors and lesions. Most tumors or lesions are irregular in shape so the circular dose cannot completely conform to their exact shape. Novalis Tx radiosurgery shapes the radiation beam precisely to a patient’s tumor or lesion, ensuring that the best possible treatment dose is delivered while healthy tissue is protected. The radiation beam also adapts to the patient’s breathing and other body movements to continuously maintain safe, complete and accurate treatment. Treatments are fast, lasting only minutes, and the patient wears a frameless custom-fit mask rather than an invasive head ring.

The Novalis system offers more treatment options than Gamma Knife. These advantages include:

High Dose Rate(HDR) Brachytherapy

HDR Brachytherapy is the insertion or application of a radiation source directly into or on a tumor. An essential component of the treatment of gynecological cancer, it is also used in treatment of cancer of the tongue and cheek. In addition it can be place in the "tumorbed" in cancer such as soft tissue sarcomas, for a short, intense course of radiotherapy. The high dose rate cobalt 60 source ensuresashort treatment time, measured in minutes rather than days, as is the case in low dose rate radiotherapy.

The New Ge-Infinia Hawkeye - is a dual detector system combined with a four-slice CT, for faster acquisition, more versatility leading to increased diagnostic confidence. Thicker crystal with co-incidence imaging enables POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY (PET-CT). Provision of data fusion with CT images allows for better anatomical localization of tracer uptake, enabling more specific diagnosis.
