Indraprastha Apollo Hospital has one of the most advance, fully equipped respiratory department, which now includes Critical Care and Sleep medicine also. The department has six consultants in all, and has a unique Respiratory & Critical Care Group, one of its kind in this country, which manages the Medical Intensive Care unit comprising of 20 beds, Bronchoscopy unit, two pulmonary functional laboratory a Sleep Lab.

Our Facilities include:
Medical Intensive Care Unit :
It has 20 Beds, all equipped with latest monitoring facilities for heart rate, cardiac rhythm, Blood pressure (arterial and non invasive), Swan gange monitoring, Cardiac ouput monitoring, End tidal CO2 monitoring, O2 Saturation probes, facility to do complex parameter calculations on the monitor.

Ventilatory facilities (Seimen's, Puritan Bennet Ventilator & Noninvasive Bilevel ventilators), and excellent physician backup. Bedside dialysis cardiac pacing, plasmapheresis is also available in case of need . The ICU is manned by a team of twelve dedicated Senior Registrar and registrar round the clock. Transport Ventilators are available to transfer patients of any severity to and fro from differnet hospital and itrahospital to get CT or MRI Scan done in sick patients.

The Bronchoscopy unit:
It has both adult and paediatric bronchoscope with C-Arm facilities for transbronchial lung biopies whenever heeded. Basis monitoring and resuscitation facilities are available in Bronchoscopy suit itself. Bronchoscopy procedure are routinely done in various intensive care units as and when need arises.

The Pulmonary function Laboratory :
Indraprastha Apollo Sleep Laboratory fills the vacuum for a world class Sleep Disorder Lab in India. It is the largest and most sophisticated sleep lab in Asia, being equipped with additional sensors, hardware and software to carry out cardiovascular studies.

Polysomnography or Sleep studies have become a science by itself in the modern day medical world. The central lab at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital also acts as the command station for networking with different hospital in other cities through Tele-medicine. Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is a diseases commonly found among the general male population. This assumes greater importance when it occurs in patients with cardiovascular diseases, the only way to diagnose and start appropriate treatment in sleep Apnoea is to do sleep studies and prevent any serious complications and even prevent unexplained death during sleep.

Patients of Chronic Insomnia and Sleep behaviour disorders need to be subjected to Polysomnography for proper management. Our lab is equipped to diagnose cases of unexplained impotence due to Sleep Apnoea or other diseases. It is the first Centre in India to conduct full scale Infant Apnoea studies to prevent Sudden Infant Death syndrome (SIDS).

Other facilities :
Pleural and intercostal tube insertions are routinely being performed and so are thoracoscopies whenever needed. The senior consultants performing and supervising these procedures and offering consultants are highly experienced.

CT guided lung biopsies, MRI Perfusion and ventilation scans are also done. In case of Mediastinascopy, Mediastinotomy and open lung biopsy thoracic surgical backup is available. For lung tumors, Oncology backup is also available.
