Establishment of the specialty of Pediatric Nephrology (also involved in starting “Adult Nephrology”: Founder member of Indian Society of Nephrology and its President in 1990). Promotion of Pediatric Nephrology in Asia and other developing countries (Founder member of Asian Pediatric Nephrology Association). Support to International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) during its initial stages.
Award of Honorary Membership by the IPNA in 2004, their highest recognition. There are just 18 Honorary IPNA members globally: 2 from Australia, 1 from Japan and the rest from Europe and USA.
Research publications. Much of the work in the field of nephrology has been published in leading Nephrology Journals. Studies in Nephrotic syndrome and hemolytic uremic syndrome have been widely recognized.
The paper entitled “ Crescentic glomerulonephritis in children”, by Srivastava RN, Moudgil A, Bagga A et al., published in American Journal of Nephrology, 1992:12: 155-161, was cited in Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics (16th Edition, 1992, page 1585). In that entire book, this was the only work from Indian workers, which found a mention.
Disaster situations and underprivileged children. Participation in organisation and delivery of nutrition rehabilitation for children in Bangladesh refugee camps in 1971. It was a joint effort of Govt of India and UNICEF.
The assignment as Director of the Institute of Child Health at Kabul, Afghanistan was a project of the Govt of India (not to be mistaken for working in Gulf countries!), and in effect, assistance to a developing country (most patients were from poor socioeconomic class). Teaching and training programs were developed for Afghan medical and other personnel.
Adoption of Comprehensive Child Care as an IAP motto in 1996; subsequent formation of an IAP Child Abuse and Neglect and Child Labour Group, which has been very actively working in the concerned fields.

Polio eradication program. Member of the Indian Expert Advisory Group. Member of case classification committee of the National polio surveillance program since its inception in 20.
Pediatric Kidney Foundation. A Pediatric Kidney Foundation has been established (Registered with the Registrar of Societies at Delhi), with the chief aims of assisting needy patients and providing help to their families.
